Re:Best Winter Destination in Europe - 2008/08/01 19:51 Well, so far we've been already.
Essaouira is situated north of the Atlas Mountains. It can get cool with massive winds (a lot of kites+sails there) during winter time. And, if You like to have a self catering appartement next to relaxed beaches+nightlife, there is no other way as to go to Agadir. If You fly in, Agadir has an international airport, so You don't waste time+money with a long drive. From Agadir it's 25kms to Taghazout all the way along sandy beaches, from Essaouria it's around 200 through the mountains, if I rember right.
Unless You also have the opportunity to Kite+Sail, forget Essaouira!

Re:Best Winter Destination in Europe - 2008/08/02 08:47 Yo,

Just got back from Lagos, what a great little spot but as someone here said... a bit of a drive from the westcoast. If you stay in Sagres you are closer but won't get the nightlife and restaurants you have in Lagos. Strongly recommend Lagos and 4 of you... Im sure you'll have a blast in the surfvan on ya way to the waves =)

Tenerife in March was freezing. Cool spot if you wanna combine in with some climbing. Make sure you bring a longsuit, I lost feeling in my toes and fingers as the water was about freezing and the air-temp not much warmer...

So, GO LAGOS and have a blast! Try finding a place near (google maps search on "lagos portugal distrital de lagos") then you are in the old town and close to some beaches.

International Surf School if you want some classes...

Njoy!

Wow didnt realise Tenerife would be cold in |March - thanks for the warning.

Re:Best Winter Destination in Europe - 2008/08/08 10:23 No worries =)

Didn't think it could be that cold either but think we were a bit unlucky that week as well...

Everything was fully booked in Lagos when we tried apartments (short notice only just over a week before flying out) so ended up at Sol e Praia, a hotel where we got a fairly good deal. Really cool beach below with cliffs to jump from but not really a surf-spot =) Rooms were ok, breakky inkluded and it was good, we had a gym swimmingpool and bar... I like it and could recommend it but if you're looking for a more surfy kinda place with a chance to meet other travellers you should look elswhere. Cool spot tho!

Check out if they have cabins at the camping, it was buzzing that place with hundreds of travellers and situated pretty much in town...

Good Luck,
Lisa

Re:Best Winter Destination in Europe - 2008/08/15 07:27 Ladies,

I hate to sound like some sort of neanderthal, but nowhere in southern europe is that cold in winter. A full length summer suit is more than enough. If it does get a little chilly drink more coffee and go with the flow.

Re:Best Winter Destination in Europe - 2008/08/16 07:22 Surfguy... call me (and the other girls?) lady or whatever you like, Im not the typcal wuzz that think the water is too cold to even think about not getting in there but not feeling my hands on the board in a longsuit (summersuit) unfortunately forced me out of the water in April. NOT happy about having a mucked-up thermostate to control my heat but what to do about it???

And I tell ya, coffee did not help haha, drank bucked-loads =)

Got any other ideás to make me get on the ice-flakes in winter sweden please tell me cause I'd love to be able to go all year round.

TC/a non-wuzz-chick
