Portugal or Canary Islands? - 2008/07/10 20:35Hi there, i need some advice. want to go on a surfing and relaxing holiday in september - i am thinking of portugal or canary islands...
musts: - easy to paddle out break - small but consistent waves - cosy but affordable appartment/hotel/studio in nice surroundings - spots just nearby, within walking distance
any hints? or am i asking for too much here..? i would be really grateful.

Re:Portugal or Canary Islands? - 2008/07/12 03:20A bit unrealistic! If You estimate all optimal conditions, You have to go to a wavepool. Surfing is natural. Surfing is unforeseeable. It's just this that makes the attraction amongst som other things. Go either to the Canaries or to Portugal. In September, both destinations will provide the same good or bad conditions. Avoid going to the south shores, there You'll find swells of tourists only.

Re:Portugal or Canary Islands? - 2008/07/15 03:48hey herwig, thanks for responding...well, i am a bit of a dreamer...but don't get me wrong here, i am compleately aware that surfing is natural...it doesn't seem like it, but that's actually one of the points why i like surfing: to be in a natural environment without having to use a lot of sports gear...
so, let's take it the other way round and not putting the perfect surf conditions as a must: do you know of any nice place to stay? avoiding south shores, do you mean the canaries, or as well heading south in portugal?

Re:Portugal or Canary Islands? - 2008/07/15 07:10Yes, Portugal, too! At the south Algarve You have to be very lucky to get waves during summer season. The spots there are typical winter breaks. Go just around the corner, from Sagres up north You will always find a wave to ride and nice places to stay.
