mexico : rent or buy? - 2008/04/26 02:42 Hi there,

I am planning to go to Mexico in few days and was wondering what's the best option between buy a board or rent it?

My plan is to go down the coast from Puerto Vallarta to Playa Azul. I don't want to rent a car - actually I can't - so will take the bus to go from beach to beach : Pascuales, la ticla, Nexpa are the ones I know but any other nice places accessible by bus you may want to share would be a gift for me

To come back on my main question, would you advice me to buy a board in PV or rent it in the places I will visit?
Is it easy to travel by bus with a board? Is it easy to find good shortboards along the coast? What is the price of a used / new shortboard? What the price for renting a board per day? ....My trip should last 3 weeks.

Thanks a lot for your help if you have any answers or advices that would help me to enjoy my surf trip.

Re:mexico : rent or buy? - 2008/04/29 06:16 RENT!!!! It's not worth it to buy a board from somebody you don't trust and have never met before! That board is all that's between you and the water. Besides that, why would you try and cart a board around when you're taking a bus? Rent! But make sure the person you're renting a board from is legit

Re:mexico : rent or buy? - 2008/05/02 08:42 I disagree, renting can be very difficult and unreliable. If you pick up a cheap board under 8' you can sock it or pick up a cheap day runner from craigslist. This size is about $80 usd on a plane and free on the bus. If you absolutly love the board you can keep it, or just improve your Karma and pass it on to some child who is amazed by the act of surfing.
