Huntingdon Beach and San Diego - 2008/03/06 20:04Im a surfer from London Uk. Im looking to plan a trip to LA in June this year. Im going with the wife and her sister. Can anyone give me some tips on what the weather will be like, and if I can hire a vehicle that can carry 4 boards? Also any good hotels around the area? Thanks in advance!

Re:Huntingdon Beach and San Diego - 2008/03/07 07:55They often call it "June gloom", as it can be very cloudy.
Water temp will be low to mid 60's. Air temp mid-high 60's near the beach, go inland and get sun and 75-80.
You should get some decent waves.
Hotels range from pricey to less pricey.
I like N. County in SD more than closer to the city.
Most of the nightlife in SD is downtown, La Jolla or in PB, some in OB, Solana Beach.
Mission Beach is skecthy but filled with charactors.
I like the Marriott in Solana Beach for a cool place to stay and good proximty to all the surf, if you have the dough!
I am not big on LA, too big and congested but Orange county has some cool places and some nice fun surf spots, like Huntington etc...
San Clemente is a cool town and Trestles is near by, great surf spot, also the Rip Curl outlet is in San Clemente if you need some quality surf gear at a good price.
Rental cars are fairly priced in the States, I would expect you will be paying around $3.35/gallon of gas. Bring your soft rack and rent a car that gets good fuel per gallon.
IB is a diamond in the rough and probably offers the cheapest rates for hotels but its in the southernmost part of SD.
My favorite breaks in SD area are D street Encinitas, Cardiff reef, Oceanside pier and Jetty and the OB cliffs.
If you can't have fun in SD, you probably can't have fun anywhere.
Enjoy, it is my favorite city in the USA.
