Canadian West Coast Surfing!!!? - 2007/09/27 21:25Hi everyone!
I'm just wondering what the surf is like in Vancouver Island, Canada. I'm heading to Whistler for a ski season, but am contemplating bringing my surf board and gear with me from Ireland...for ski to sea winter fun! Also, what's the scene like there? Places to stay, bars to party in and all that?
any feedback would be appreciated!! Thanks
Amy Mc

Re:Canadian West Coast Surfing!!!? - 2007/09/30 13:09There's plenty of spots besides Tofino.
I went surfing at Sombrio in the spring, that was quite fun. It's about an hour and a half west of Victoria. There's Jordan River there as well. Just camp out on the beach and bring food and water as there's nothin but a greasy spoon and a coffeeshop in jordan river.
Comin to Whistler eh? I'm livin there right now...can't wait till opening day!

Re:Canadian West Coast Surfing!!!? - 2007/11/30 07:34Hey Amy, the surf is definitly there, as per usual, you have to go and find it yourself and reap the rewards. My best advice..When winter winds up in Whistler, head south to the wonderful warm waters of mainland Mexico. Puerto Escondido has everything for all levels of surfers and party loving travellers. April May is a great time to go there as your winter pass at wistler will run out and they will want you to buy a spring pass. You fly through Mexico city onto Puerto which has its own international airport. Its a few hundred dollars to get there but living is cheap.Give me a bell if you need to know more! I know lots about Whistler if you need too. Matt
