Surfing Chile/Peru in Nov/Dec - 2007/10/02 05:41I'm travelling around Chile and Peru for six weeks, going in Mid November.
i've only got a few months (once a week) surfing experience and looking to try a surfing school for a week or so. Does anyone have any reccomendations on Schools or areas?

Re:Surfing Chile/Peru in Nov/Dec - 2007/10/03 03:06go to Punta Hermosa 35km south of lima - loads of spots in walking distance and cool surf-camps. Not exactly surf schools, but paddle out with any of the guys there (Oscar, Antonio, Makki) and you'll get better help than a surf school. November is the very beginning of summer so the party scene will be starting... wish it was me that was going )
I don't know much about them personally, but it's something to look into.
If you're in Lima there's a lot of options, but most cater to children. I've spent some time with some of Edgardo's instructors ( http://www.edgardodelpino.net/ ) and enjoyed it (other than the kid I was with screaming and crying for 30m cause he was scared of waves and his mom made him take a class). They have single and group classes.
One word of warning though, the beaches in Lima aren't the best for beginners. There are a lot of rocks and a steeper entrance to the water than would be idea. Not some super sandy shallow beach like you see in surf training videos.
Also if you just want some basic surf training videos for free, check out www.podsurf.tv. It's australian, but you can pick up their free pod casts via ITunes or their website. Nothing too in depth, but certainly very nice for FREE!
