Re:INFO ON CURRUMBIN PLEASE!! - 2007/09/22 13:06 Yep, Currumbin is a really good wave, it's generally known as 'The Alley" (that's what the old timers called it, short for Shark Alley)holds swell from 1 foot up to how big do you want?
Jump off the rocks at the front, just watch where the locals do it, and be aware that there can be a really strong sweep.
Lot's of long boards, older locals who demand, and get, respect, but not as aggro as Snapper.
Sand bottom, can be really hollow and super long right hander.
Definately up there with Burleigh, Kirra, and Snapper/Greenmount.

I live there when I'm in Australia.

Re:INFO ON CURRUMBIN PLEASE!! - 2007/09/24 12:13 Ah the alley ... home sweet home ... at least since I migrated from Burleigh Heads.

There is a creek that flows out to the sea there and a big rock. Very hard to miss from the gold coast high way.

SIZE

Waves will start cracking at 1ft.

From 1 ft to 3ft its excellent for long boards and you can surf on the creek side of the rocks. Probably the nicest long boarding waves in town.

From 3ft+ the break moves towards to point of the rocks. BE CAREFUL. Many underwater rocks.

SWELL

Look for swell from the S, SSW, SSE may be SE for best conditions. Anything else is rubbish.

TIDE

1h before and after HIGH or LOW. Anything in between and the sweep/undertow gets very nasty especially when the swell is over 3ft.

FREQUENCY

There are waves there 99% of the time. Whether it is surfable or not (due to the mess not lack of waves) is another story.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ...

This beach has a HUGE amount surfers there. Be considered and let people have a few waves and don't be greedy or else you'll get bashed. People there are very strict and hard about surf etiquette and politeness.
