Surfspots in FRANCE - 2007/06/11 01:08 Hi there!

We (= 3 belgian girls with a very little surfing experience) wanna go out for a few days and explore the coast of France! We dont wanna drive too much, so the best option is Atlantic Ocean. Wich areas are easy to reach, easy to hire equipment, easy to learn and easy to have a lot of fun???

We have to come from Belgium, so the closest, the best!

thanx

Re:Surfspots in FRANCE - 2007/06/11 04:43 in france and especially during the summer here are the spots/areas I recommend to you. Anyway from belgium you will need between 8 and 11 hours depending on which area you choose

- lacanau / gironde (1h drive form Bordeaux) Several spot in this area, lot of school, always possible to surf alone if you walk a bit.

- Hossegor/ capbreton/ seignosse - department of landes
great surf ambiance, lot of spot but with a higher level in the water than upper on the french coast. Can be crowded

- Biarritz / anglet - Bask Country.
A different atmosfear but can be cool too. Maybe less "roots" than hossegor or lacanau... Lot of spots and school but lot of people too...

From belgium, Gironde region is the closest, then Landes with hossegor etc, then Biarritz.

Just make your choice and enjoy!!!

you can do the same at hossegor/seignosse etc..., but be careful, you mentionned your very little suf experience. I do not advise you to surf alone on the gironde or lande coast because of the 'baïne' mechanism, a kind of current which can take you far from beach. ask to local where you can surf without danger.

Re:Surfspots in FRANCE - 2007/06/13 22:55 The closest of Belgium is "La Torche" in Brittany:
you will have some fun waves not too much powerful. The landscape is incredible and it's far less crowded than "la Gironde" or "Hossegor".

Re:Surfspots in FRANCE - 2007/06/17 21:36 Hi there ;

I would also suggest La Torche as a good beginners spot ; you can hire boards @ the spot... and La torche is a real swell magnet ... you will need this in summertime .
Lots of crowds ... but I'm affraid you will have to deal with crowds...no board renting @ uncrowded places ....
(you'll have to make fun on your own here -- not much to do around)

La Torche isn't that close though...about 850 kms ...

Quiberon is a bit closer ... and also catches some swell..do not know where to hire boards , but you sure can overthere somewhere . (Penthievre is good sandy beach ,4 beginners)
Here some more "fun" around ...

Maybe La Palue (crozon) ... very , very nice sceneries but beach is not so close to civilisation (board renting ??)
Seems to be also very , very crowded on holidays....
Not so close neither....
naaaaaaaaah

Maybe somewhere "en Vendee" ?? never been there myself ...

dju !!! kgeraak der zelve niemeer uit ...

bye

Re:Surfspots in FRANCE - 2007/06/25 01:33 Vendee can get good, lots of long sandy beaches, good for beginners..La Sauzaie is good, but gets too crowded too soon, and way too lary for novices. Nice part of France.....chilled
