Panama in June - 2007/05/15 04:50 I was wondering if anybody can give me some information on Panama. I am traveling there in June for 3 weeks with 2 friends and we were planning on renting a car and just cruising around. I was hoping some of you can answer some questions.

Do i need a 4X4, or will a sedan do?
How are the hotels and accomodations?
Any Suggestions on where to start/surf?
How much should I plan on bringing for food for 3 weeks?

Anything else anybody has to say would be great!!!!

Re:Panama in June - 2007/05/16 20:25 Hey, whats up man. Im going to costa rica in may and june. Ill probably go down to Panama because i know it is less crowded. Ive been to costa and nicaragua before, but i haven't made it to panama. Im hoping to go this trip. I heard santa catalina is the best wave on the pacific side. Well, im sure youll score it. From what i've learned from travelling in central america, is that it is way cheaper taking the bus. Driving is pretty dangerous, the roads are bad and people drive like their on steroids. Taxis aren't to bad, if you have people to split the cost. But riding the bus is cool, and you get to experience what life is like down there, because most people dont own cars. Let me know how it is, im interested, if you score big, tell me where and ill head down there for sure.

Aloha,
Ryan

Re:Panama in June - 2007/05/20 05:38 Ryan,

Yeah, I rented a car when I went to Costa Rica, and I was super glad I did. I got to just leave a place whenever, drive to different spots. So that was my rationale. I think I am gonna end up renting a car. I will let you know if I score.

Re:Panama in June - 2008/12/24 11:05 Santa Catalina is definitely the best wave in Panama. I stayed there for several days and scored great waves. The diving was great at Isla Coiba too. I suggest renting a car and driving there because once you are there, you want to be able to get around to the different beaches, restaurants, etc.
