Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/03/28 20:37 I live in Vladivostok, Russia.

Last season I met two windsurfer (now they are surfer too). They had longboard 9".
After Vietnam they brought shortboard 7".
I bought in Bali minimal 7".
That's all. No more surfbords , no more surfers .

Waves 1 m - once a week, 1.5-2.0 m - once a month.
Best season - september, offshore, 15-25C, water 20C.
In October 10-15C, water 15.

I use wetsuit 3-4mm. In May need gloves, boots.

Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/03/31 23:47 Wannasurf - why bother? What on earth is the point in naming and shaming spots in places like Russia and India? The only people likely to go there are surf 'explorers' and they don't need or want a map (that no doubt is full of inconsistencies anyway). I'd like to know exactly what wannasurf hope to achieve from doing stuff like this? By publishing such information you are doing nothing for the good of surfing but you are helping to destroy the soul of it. If you really must publish such info then don't bother with spots, just put how the swells work there and when might be the prime time to go - let people work out the rest for themselves. Those who don't have the nounce to look at maps and swell patterns themselves and work out where the best waves might be don't deserve to surf those kind of places.

Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/04/01 04:26 we 'bother' because a lot of surfers want to share the stoke. If these russian guys want to share their surf spots, who are you to say they shouldn't? Personally, I am in awe of guys who surf north of vladivostok. Thats the real soul of surfing right there.

Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/04/01 12:34 Regards why bother ... why bother to surf at all unless you are willing to surf new spots and to seek the unknown ...
"we shall not cease from exploration ...

Surfing is not for woosies!

Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/04/03 21:25 2 Bab:
Hey, Bab…I haven’t decided yet whether your words sound offending or complimentary…and really hope you didn’t mean to insult Russian surfers…Anyways, I just wanted to say that you probably 100% right in regard to the ‘russian spots’ and the people who might be surfing there…And most likely information about surfing in Russia is useless for those who can surf regularly in their home country…And I’m 100% sure that nobody (except the mentioned explorers) will come and try surfing Russian spots…
BUT! Can you please just admit that somewhere…in ‘weird’ Russia exist people who love surfing, who were born with love to the ocean…who lives their lives realizing that smth was wrong in their delivery and they should have been born somewhere on the Gold Coast or Waikiki or ….dunnow Canaries, Hossegor or Ericeira….whatsoever…
Can you just take it as it is…such people exist …and they DO have spots to surf and they enjoy it because they don’t have other choices…and they WANT TO SHARE IT with guys like you…and like everybody else on this forum…

Well…sorry if what I wrote is a bit too much aggressive…I did not mean it…I just know for sure how it is like to see the waves in your dreams and wake up frustrated not having a tiny chance to surf regularly…how to be a surfer in the soul but live thousands miles away from the ocean…and surf twice a year living from vacation to vacation…

I’ve never surfed Russian spots…but I’d really like to try them. And there are some spots on the Black Sea, where you can surf maybe couple days a year, it’s not cold there at all, but the swell is incredibly inconsistent….. and once you know the forecast you can catch some fun there

2 admin:
Thanks for “doing stuff like this” (quoting Bab ….At least “real” surfers will know that there is a bit of surfing in Russia ))…just for their knowledge )) And who knows, when the global warming comes, maybe Russia will become second Hawai

Cheers

Re:Russia Surfing - 2007/04/11 18:51 Thanks to Admin and Vita and the others...
Yes I know too "how to be a surfer in the soul but live thousands miles away from the ocean…and surf twice a year living from vacation to vacation…" Yes we do exist!!! For me, living in Russia, it's easier to go to Indo or Brazil or wherever for surfing than to Kamchatka (almost same distance ha ha but I’m going there one day anyway…) but thank you very much for the endeavors and attention to the matter!!! And good luck to the explorers!!!
ALOHA!
