California Travelling - 2007/03/28 19:50Im hoping to go over to the USA to visit relatives in the next year or so and was thinking of working my way around California for a few weeks. I will most likely be travelling solo and was wondering the best way to get around and where to stay. Im not after BIG surf, just looking for clean and consistant surf. When would be the best time to go and where should i be sure to visit??

Re:California Travelling - 2007/03/28 22:58Kai,
You should definitely surf in the O.C. area. Seal Beach and to the south towards San Clemente. You should find loads of surf between Bolsa Chica and Newport Beach. Depending upon the swell, it can get big and unruly. But often times there's always a waist high wave on offer. Anytime between June thru Sept. is good. Huntington faces south, so you'll be looking for the south swells that come up through Mex. It'll be summertime as well. Good luck.

Re:California Travelling - 2007/04/04 07:29gday mate, If you are seeking consistent surf that is not too big, (as you stated), and you would like clear warm water all year, and affordable lodging/food, then I recommend visit Central/North Florida: cocoa beach, sebastion inlet, new symrna beach, ponce inlet, Jacksonville...Florida has nice surf in the winter ... up to summer... then we depend on hurricane action to pump it up. Calif, has great waves, has cold a.... water, large shadows lurking underneath (whities), and is very expensive. Florida, also has the "landlord/shark" problem, but most bites are non-fatal.. ..Florida has good surf, lots of bikinis, good luck.

Re:California Travelling - 2007/04/09 16:07i would just work my way down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) starting from around Seal Beach then work down thro Bolsa Chica, Huntington, Newport, Corona Del Mar, Crystal Cove, Laguna, Dana Point, and eventually end up down in San Clemente, Trestles, and San O. there are a TON of surf spots, plus great scenery.. have fun!!
