Re:Headin to Bali April 2nd - 2006/12/31 12:28 I was there in April last year. April gets some swell, but not as much as May-Sep. But there is not as many crowds in April. Winds are also variable at that time of year, some days west, some days southeast, but they are usually light til about 11AM. Check out Uluwatu, Dreamland, Kuta on east side, and if swell is very small, check out Nusa Dua down south, or Nyang Nyang when small and early, which never has crowds. I'm not going to tell you about a few other spots, but they are down south way.

To fly to Singapore return costs about 200+ US all up to extend stay for another month. You can get lucky and find a travel agent to send your passport to Jakarta to extend visa for about 150 US, but only a few places do this, and it takes a week. Overstaying costs 20 US /day. Over a month overstay they send you to gaol, I'm told.

If you live cheap on Bali you can get by on about 20 US /DAY, if you party you need about 50 US/day.

Hope this helps. I surfed some spots in April last year by myself, but don't count on it.

Re:Headin to Bali April 2nd - 2006/12/31 16:57 More info

As for boards-they are reasonably cheap, you can buy one there in Kuta for about 350 US new. Kuta has a million places to stay, ranging from about $4us/night to over 100/night. Just look around. I stayed at Sambat Hotel for about 10 US night with air con. Lots of people speak english. Transport by taxi is about 10us to Uluwatu from Kuta one way, or you can hire a car or motorbike for about 12us/day and 4us/ day respectively, although you need an internional drivers licence before you go to Bali. I just get a taxi around, but it is a bit pricier. I dont think you can get an international licence in Bali, you need to get it before you arrive. You can leave your stuff in the hotel, or in most surf places there are Warungs on the break (little resturants with cold drinks etc) which look after your stuff for free, as long as you buy a drink or two. I usually take some clothes and surf booties etc, which the warungs look after. Best to stay mear the surf when its up, and head back to Kuta to party when there is no swell, that is what i do, and I stay down near Uluwatu for about 6 us/day. Good luck

Re:Headin to Bali April 2nd - 2006/12/31 17:00 its so easy to find a place to sleep at kuta. I stayed at a place named okie house att poppy's and it was something about 4 euro a night but there are cheaper places on kuta. the cheapest place I saw on bali was near padang padang and it was 10.000 rupia a night(1 eu) I think 20 dollar a day is still enough to live wide if you consider that a plate of nasi goreng costs about 80 euro cent.
but the kuta partys are wicked so enjoy that to
