Where to Stay in CR - 2012/03/19 04:20 Finally decided to go in Costa Rica. Anyone has a place to suggest to stay?
We are going in Jaco area

Re:Where to Stay in CR - 2012/03/20 02:03 Jaco is a tourist dump! Unless you are looking for hookers (or to get mugged or busted, or both) stay away. Surf is junk and you will be flying into and out of San Jose, bad idea. If you are going to CR looking for world class surf, fly directly into Libera and plan from there. Search the Forum and read "All you want to know about Tamarindo".

Re:Where to Stay in CR - 2012/03/21 05:34 There is a Hostel in Tamarindo by Witches Rock Cafe that runs about $20 US per night, just no A/C. Its across from the Hotel I stayed at and right at the rivermouth break. You don't need a car as there are several good spots to surf in walking distance and a super French Bakery next door. Note it closes early
so load up on steak pasties and other goodies early.
The Supermarket is downtown on the other side of the road about mile, best place to buy your beer. Witches Rock Cafe is the best place in town to eat and has a live band Saturday night. Rent your boards from Kelly's Surf Shop, tell him the Aussie sent you. Take Zinc Oxide cream for your face or you will fry your eyes staring into the white hot sun. You will also need some kind of bug lotion. Look into Witches Rock and Ollies Point trips early as they only go once or twice a week. Note both spots are expert only so don't bother unless you are really good. You can always rent a car at the airport, $50 a day for a 4X4 Hyundai Tuscon plus $25 a day insurance and drive to Playa Negra one the best spots in the whole country and an easy wave. Take a shortsleeve rash guard to protect fron sunburn and you may consider reef booties
for Stingray and Stone Fish protection. I wore them out surfing Stone Fish Reef LOL. Pura Vida.

Re:Where to Stay in CR - 2012/03/21 07:05 Doc is right on here.
If you have a little more $ to spend, I liked the all inclusive place off of Playa Longosta. Good food, fairly cheap, had a.c.. Rivermouth in front, but close proximity to other breaks. I think I rented the exact car Doc talked about, it was kind of small and almost hit axles when we went over bumps. So choose cars carefully if you are planning on driving alot.
Get out there, have fun!

Re:Where to Stay in CR - 2012/03/21 07:37 Yeah if you can get a deal from your Travel Agent otherwise its way expensive! My friend and his wife
stayed at the Diria (diarrhea?) Hotel, Resort & Casino
in downtown. Actually its really nice. As he spoke fluent Spanish he paid off the kitchen staff to provide us with free daily "take outs" for our surf trips. Yum Yum.
