I know I can check spots here, but thought maybe a local could direct me to a casual spot to teach my kids, then a little better spot for me to go later. Any suggestions?

just got back from Morro Bay. It was cold & overcast 4 out of 6 days. The water was bloody cold, the surf blown out. Seemed to be windy ALL the time. I just checked the North side of the Rock, the South side down the spit aways looked like it might have some waves, but I never made it out.
