Surfing in South San Francisco - 2011/02/13 13:56Can somebody tell me about surfing south of Ocean Beach in the Broadmoor area? South of the zoo, it looks like there's some tall cliffs that make getting to the water tough until you get down to Fairmont, Sharp Park, and the pier. Is that right, or can you get down the cliffs pretty easily?
I'm thinking about moving to Broadmoor, but I want to be close enough to bike down and surf in the morning. Should I look more at Fairmont, instead?
Are there sandbars and beach breaks all the way down to Pedro Point? Is it pretty much just as heavy as Ocean Beach all the way down?
How are the winds? Is it calm/offshore in the mornings and onshore in the afternoons usually in a typical diurnal cycle, or do the cliffs/bay do weird things to the wind?
Does it get big during summer southern hemi's or are they blocked? I know winter probably gets out of control a lot. What's the water and air temp? Does it stay pretty warm in the winter (above 40 degrees) or does it get frigid? I'm thinking a 5/4 plus hood and booties (no gloves) will be okay for 1-3 hour sessions in the winter and a 4/3 should be good for summer mornings.
It looks pretty lonely and sharky. Anybody regularly dawn patrol there and want some company?
