Surfboards In Costa Rica - 2010/08/19 06:36Travelling to Costa next week and havent decided if I should pack my boards because of the airline fees along with the number of damaged boards from friends on they're previous trips.
Whats the cost of a board down there? I'd rather get a board there from a local shaper.
Whats the cost of a used board?

Re:Surfboards In Costa Rica - 2010/09/23 05:44Sounds like you already went... but when I went last year the boards were insanely expensive. I bought one but wish I would have rented instead. This was in Jaco/Hermosa. Alot are knockoffs too.

Re:Surfboards In Costa Rica - 2010/12/08 16:20If you are in the Jaco / Hermosa Beach area try http://www.cartonsurfboards.com/ He is one of the best local shapers and his board prices are reasonable. Purchasing a board then reselling when you are finished is a great way to cut costs and pick up a great board.
In the Tamarindo area, try Eduardo at The Lab Surf Co. (info@thelabsurfcompany.com). The Lab has visiting world renowned shapers like Bill Johnson and his brother, Joe Johnson, as well as Micheal Byrne and others coming down several times per year and making the best boards you can find in the country, without a doubt. Prices are comparable with the states, but usually have a high resale value.
Just remember you are going to pay a minimum of $100.00 each way per board (board bag), so make your decision based on that.
