Portugal in August - 2010/05/09 02:58Hey peeps! I'm newbie in surfing but decided to start this summer since I'm really into snowboarding
I've gone through whole forum and found similar topics but no one gave any concrete advice on this except it isn't best season. Unfortunately can't shift my vacation and therefore August is all I have.
1. What spot would you recommend for August to begin? 2. Any difference beginning or end of August?
I'm from Ukraine which is bloody long way to go and would be really disappointing if it's flat...
Thanks in advance.

Re:Portugal in August - 2010/05/10 08:17End of August is normally better. August at Europe is no month to give any guarantees for consistent swell. But this is not so bad if You are a beginner, small waves may give You a better entry. Don't count on Your snowboard skills, it will help You not a bit when learning how to surf. Later on when You are able to paddle, duckdive and to stand up snowboard experience can give You support when it comes to balance and moves on the board.

Re:Portugal in August - 2010/05/27 01:35Hello If you are planing to go to Portugal next august for a surf holiday, you should go to Peniche, I already was there last year during July,it was not flat. I don't think u can find better surf conditions than peniche in all Europe. It offers both north and west-facing coastlines, means that you will have a large choice of surf spots, suitable for all surfer levels. When i was there i stayed in a beautiful and good located surf camp: www.surfberbere.com/portugal have a nice trip and nice surf

Re:Portugal in August - 2010/05/31 21:47Hey Oleg,
Peniche and Ericeira are the most consistent surf places in Europe. even in August is hard to get it flat.
If you're interested in surf classes, board rentals, surf guides and accommodation, there are a bunch of places...
Have a nice trip and good waves! Jamie
