Peru dec/jan - 2009/07/16 20:21 Hello guys and gals!

Me and a couple of buddys are planning a trip to Peru in late december early january. We`re planning to fly to Lima and drive north. We have some questions we would love to have answered if someone has knowledge about the conditions in Peru...

How`s the waves in Peru in december/january? Consistency? Do we need wetsuits? How are the roadconditions, would we need a 4x4? I`ve also heard that Peru is pretty unsafe, is this true or just bulls**t? Anything else we need to know?

Any answeres would be apreciated!!

Re:Peru dec/jan - 2009/07/18 05:13 Waves are pretty consistent, you will find waves.

You will need a wetsuit, water temps in the 60-68 degrees area.

4x4 would be useful but expensive.

Safety, be cautious and you should be OK.

Re:Peru dec/jan - 2009/07/23 02:50 Hello dude,

I'm also planing a surf trip to northern Peru in this same period. A friend and me. We should be getting there about january the fifth and spending a month and a half. Did you find any other references on the wave and weather conditionds for this period? Anything about accomodation and car rental prices? Any help would be great for we are a little bit lost about prices and stuff. Our buget isn't all that, so anything we can spere is good.

Hope to get an answer on this issue,

Tks!

Re:Peru dec/jan - 2009/07/23 03:54 Air temps should be nice but water temps will be a little nippy, you will need some neoprene!

Car rentals are usually a pain but do your research on the area and find the best one including price and unlimted miles.

Accomodations you will have to spend some time surfing the web to find what you want. As you head north accomodations get thinner but you can find some places.

Re:Peru dec/jan - 2009/09/02 21:42 thanks for the replies guys!

I have some more questions: how far is it to travel (drive in a 4x4) from lima to the northern areas? should we expect to use several days/a week just driving, or is it possible to get from Lima to the north in a day or so? Also wondering if anyone have some good tips about how to fly as cheaply as possible from europe to lima??

Cheers

Re:Peru dec/jan - 2009/09/04 02:25 Hey mate

Your coming at the right time of the year for waves. You can defnitely travel north and hit the spots in a day. From Lima it takes 8 hours to get to Trujillo. The Panamerican highway's not too bad. You shouldn't have any probs driving. From there, Huanchaco's 30 minutes away. Chicama, pacasmayo etc's a few hours further north. As for accomodation. You can find good clean dorms for roughly 7-10 US dollars a night. Might be a bit higher at that time since it's peak season. Anyway, I'm in ecuador now and will be heading back to Lima in a few weeks. Will be there when you arrive. Hit me up if ya need anymore info.

Cheers
B
