Re:rash guards help w/ cold? - 2008/10/19 12:01ok, thanks for the replies. global warming sounds pretty sweet - maybe in a few years I can get rid of my wetsuit altogether.
I did see some product called heater shorts that claimed to help keep warm and have also seen rash shorts. I figured maybe rash guard is like adding 0.25 mm or something. Think I'll don one anyway just for the pure comfort factor.

Re:rash guards help w/ cold? - 2008/10/19 23:01Regarding warmth, the only thing I have found a rash guard useful for is slowing down the slosh of water around my back back. My diving wet suit has a spine pad to fill up the gap between the spine and the suit, but surfing wet suits don't have that option. I have a O'Niell Psycho and O'Niell Mutant which are really hard to get on and off, and a long sleeve rash guard really helps for that.

Re:rash guards help w/ cold? - 2008/10/23 13:51No rashguards are to help with rubbing on the board with bare skin. You need to get a wetsuit. at least 4/3 most likely. The website below is usually a good place to get one at a reasonable price. I'm not sure where you surf at. So I don't know what the tempiture is where you are surfing. But just look at the guidelines on the water temptures and where you surf and that will help you out the best. Also try on wetsuits if you can off all different brands. There are some really good ones out there but each suit fits honestly different body types. So make sure you get one that is comfortable also one that fits. You might want to even ask your local board shop to help you out. It should feel tight when you are out of the water but still comfortable. You want to make sure you feel like you can move around and be flexible. I hope that helps.

Filthy mind ... you dont have to speak French to translate that one! What the hell has a "chamber of love" have to do with a surf location ... only in France! Looks like its just around the corner from Biarritz?

Re:rash guards help w/ cold? - 2008/10/26 15:52can't be sure what came first, the place name or the story which goes with it. in any case, there's a cave in the rocks there where, according to local legend, two young lovers from feuding families went to meet and were trapped by the tide and drowned.
