Re:Quad surfboards - just hype? - 2008/08/15 06:20 Hey dawonksta,
I ride right now both a 5'10" twinnie and a 5'9" quad and have had alot of experience riding varying shapes and designs of these two fin setups. My twin fin is very snappy and fun for stuff up to shoulder to head high, while my quad is really fun in shoulder + in heights and a little more bowly. On whether the board you posted will "slide out" and steeper stuff... no, not on the tail design on the board you're posting (granted i'm only looking at the picture), but quads with a tapered tail like that (the quad i ride now is very similar in shape) have a lot of grip. I have taken my quad out in head high plus days and it works great, late take offs and all. What you will lose though is thrust in smaller mushier stuff, in that you need the back of the board to be a little wider for more plane, but this will cause the board to be really lose in head high stuff. That's why i have the 5'10" twinnie for shoulder high and below days (has a fat ass on it), and use my 5'9" in the bigger steeper stuff (has more of a tapered back end, sticks into the curl very well and makes for some wicked drawn out cutbacks)
