I will go to spain in a few months from UK, i would like to take my board rather than hire it. But i am gathering info about surfboards in flight companies. At the moment
British Airways: After 6 november they will not transport any surfboard Iberia: They charge you as extra weight, for them a surfboard weighs 20 kg, 20 kg x 10€/Kg = 200€ one way
Low cost companies: Ryanair, easyjet ... the prices go from 10£ to 30£, I dont know whether they are trustable
Anyone have traveled with them?

Re:Flight companies - 2007/10/26 21:09I've used easyjet a couple of times and had no problems or hassle. You know how much you are paying (its paid with the ticket) so you don't get any bullshit at the check in desk as with some other airlines who will say anything from minimum 300$ one way, to we don't carry boards at all etc....
Its up to you to pack your board right though.... I was watching an easyjet flight being unloaded and someone's boards went on to the base of a luggage cart and had about two tons of suitcases and stuff piled up on top... ooochhh!!! Obviously not the airlines fault as this was airport ground-staff.... but not nice

Re:Flight companies - 2007/10/27 05:28Seems that British Airways has enough customers so they can forbear to offer transport for surfers. Fortunately there are many other airlines to bring Your tool to the waves! All airlines have webpages, so check there for baggage rules, I'm sure You'll find an opportunity.

Re:Flight companies - 2007/10/27 06:49Royal Air maroc has always been really good about carrying boards - never had any problems, and don't remember paying any surcharges.
