IMPORTANT - pain under the ribs - 2007/09/21 22:34HI,
4 weeks ago i was surfing in france. After some sessions i had a big pain in my stomach under my right ribs so icouldn't surf no more. Now the pain is gone but when i'doing some specials moves i still sense a slight pain. I'm planning to go sufing at the start of october again, now my question is, wether i should contact a doctor for x-rays which would by nearly impossible because of the time, or if you think it is normal? I mean a muscle ache should be far gone, maybe i blessed my muscles? But then it would maybe be mor painfull... Do you have any hints? I would really be sad if i paid much money and can't surf no more after some days. Maybe a hard work out would prevent that?

Re:IMPORTANT - pain under the ribs - 2007/09/26 03:31Many people who don't surf frequently reporting symptoms like You do. It`s resulting from flattering on the deck of a relatively hard board when paddling through the break. Normally, after a couple of days the body accustomates to the pressure on the ribs, but in some case, it may lead to pleura inflammation. If not attended the lung may also be affected. Consult a doc or pharmacist and ask for a special sports salve. Use it preventive every evening when You start surfing after a long period on dry land. If possible, start paddle training in advance of a surf trip on a lake or pool. See You -in good health- sometime in France!
