shots before Bali? - 2007/08/29 08:01What kind of shots do you have to take (if any) before traveling to Bali? Is there any other precautions that I should be aware about? thanks

Re:shots before Bali? - 2007/08/30 14:58I travel around SEA a lot. Not been to Bali yet but since Bali is in SEA, I assume that it is very similar. I assume that you are a standard round the mill Westie traveller couse if you are a local you don't have to worry. I swear that the people there are immune to most of the diseases.
If you intend to hang around the usual tourist/populated urban/semi rural areas. Just go.
However, if you intend to go deep into the jungle or deep into a remote area (Which I seriously doubt unless you are going for business or missionary work) then I suggest the following as a minimum;
1. Malaria shots and pills 2. Dengue fever shots
If you are a hypochondriac and/or paranoid about things, add the following to your already very painful injection regime;
3. Tetanus 4. Rabies 5. Hepatitis A and B
MORE IMPORTANTLY
Everywhere you go carry with you lot and lots of anti diarrhoea pills (like Lomotil), a roll of toilet paper and a change of pants!
You are not used to the local food and spices regardless of hygiene. So it's going to get messy. The asian food you get at your local takeaway is NOTHING like the real stuff in Asia.
