Re:how you started to surf - 2007/08/05 04:31 Spring break 1962 on the way to body surf Seal Beach pier Terri, my older sister, got the idea to sneak down to the rivermouth and rent some surf boards. My brother Tim and I were all for it. I think we all got stand up rides that day. (After 45 years its hard to remember) Our whole ganag started surfing after that and I've met alot for good people since then though surfing. Surfing has been my refuge since that first day. My sister stopped surfing a couple of years later and move to the desert. My brother moved to the Islands and is still at it. I still get out a least once a week. Terri(60yrs old now) moved to Carlsbad a couple of yrs ago and annouced she wanted to start surfing again. I think that is totally cool. The surf report says its 2 to 3 ft & the water is 70 degrees. I'm outa here. Tony

Re:how you started to surf - 2007/08/05 18:44 Hi,

I had several attempts towards Surfing, until I finally stood up on a board !

The first try was in 1984 (I was eight years old).... my father was pushing me into the waves... we were using his old thick board... the waves were shoulder high... and the board was very bad (one of the first shortboards... barely unriddable)... anyways, I was having lots of fun until the board hit my head.... I was a very spoiled kid... started crying...

After that my father bought me a Boogie Board... so I could hit the waves with my friends !

The second attempt was in 1990 (I was fourteen)... My uncle, godfather and now owner of SurfCastle Property bought me a K&K 6,2 Shortboard for Xmas... I remember it was one of the best Xmas gifts I ever had !!!! I was so excited to try it, that I picked the wrong day to go Surfing with it... I went to Surf the reef break in front of SurfCastle, with pratically no Waves.... I smashed the board in half into the reef.... and went back to Bodyboarding again...

After that I was really angry with SUrfing... I occasionally longboarded in smaller days with my friends...

Only five years ago I really decided to Start Surfing... Its a great feeling... sometimes I feel to become a teenager again learning a new sport from scratch !

so one thing I realised from your stories is that surfing keeps you young no meter how old you are and it's a great sport-leisure in one word it's GREAT
