Looking for good spots in NY & NJ ?? - 2007/06/06 22:56Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and to surfing. We got back recently from a trip to Hawaii and took a lesson and rented a Longboard for a few days - Loved every minute of it and now I am hooked. Unfortunately I do not live on the coast, I am inland on New York but only 1.5 hrs from Ny or NJ beaches. Two questions for everyone:
1. What are good beginner spots in NY & NJ to surf?
2. Am I better off buying a used board or renting (I assume most rentals are going to be pretty beat up)
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re:Looking for good spots in NY & NJ ?? - 2007/06/07 02:19I'm not from the East Coast, but there is plenty of surf in NJ, and I have surfed a couple of times in the Hamptons. In all honesty, I'd say every spot on the East Coast is good for a beginner, unless it is heavily localized like I know some NJ beaches can be. Definitely go with a used board, or you can get a brand new long board at Costco for just a couple of hundred bucks, and they work great for beginners.
