Toll Road at San O/Trestles - 2007/02/08 10:36What does everybody think about the toll road being bulit at San O/ Trestles? I do NOT want to have it built.
(1. Many people are turned off by the long walk. With a Toll Road going right over Trestles. The walk could turn into parking your car almost on the beach! Now a lot of guys are probably reading this going "That's exactly why it should be built!" But think of all the other guys who are thinking that too! Trestles could end up having 300+ guys out at once!
(2. More parking will be made, That could be a good thing, except The maybe 500 spaces that were made, keep a lot of guys out. When Trestles is fireing the lot can be full by 7:30AM! If say 1,000 more spots are made that could be 1,500 guys out at one spot!
(3. Isn't Trestles a State Park A.K.A a NATURE RESERVE! We would be building a major road over a Landscape that has never been touched!!!
We all dream of Surfing Perfect empty Trestles, So lets keep it that way.

Re:Toll Road at San O/Trestles - 2007/03/28 23:04NOOOOOOOO. Yeah, just read that it is getting postponed. Hopefully it will be long enough for people to realise that it is a really bad idea. It would definitely increase traffic to an already congested spot. The fact that they built military quarters right there was enough. Too bad those aren't up for grabs for us civilians. hahahhahaa.
But yeah, they definitely preserve what's there. Actually, the whole experience of surfing Trestles is the walk.

Re:Toll Road at San O/Trestles - 2007/04/02 09:17You guys are missing the bigger issue here. Yes..there is a potential that a parking lot near San Mateo/Trestles will likely increase the number of surfers. However, the bigger issue is the fact that a large portion of the San Mateo wild sanctuary will be destroyed and have a damaging effect on the surf. Trestles has its firing surf because of the many sandbars which are continuously renourished by the sand deposits and natural sediment flow through San Mateo Creek flowing into the ocean.
So in short there is more at stake here than a line up which is slightly more crowded than normal. The quality of wave at one of the best breaks in Southern CA will likely decrease substantially.
