You may be really into body boarding now, and fair enough go for it I say. but who's to say that in 10 years time you may want something different from surfing, and may choose to try another surf craft.

I would like to say that I'll be cutting sick on shortboard till the end of my days but inevitably I'm gonna grow old and fat and not be able to ride a shortboard anymore... then I'll have to start riding a longboard.

Now before you all get excited, I'm not saying that all long boarders are old and fat either, I'm just saying that the style of surfing on them is much cruisier, and it is much easier to paddle and catch waves. When I get older and cannot ride a short board anymore, the longboard style will be more my cup of tea.

FYI I have a long board now (9'6") but I only tend to use it when it is too small for my shortboard, or when I go to a break like Byron Bay or Cabarita and the waves are real slow, cruisy sliders.

But that average speed bump you find out in the lineup-- i have no love for them. They always come in packs and think they are somehow gnarlier and more deserving of waves (when in fact it is quite the contrary). If i look back and see some sponge coming down the line, I'm going every time.
