Beginner needs help picking a destination - 2011/09/22 07:31OK, the wife and I are Very Rough surfers. We enjoy it a lot but frankly are not very good. We surf here in Oregon but only rarely and are planning a trip to Hawaii this winter/spring. So I am wondering is there a particular island that will cater to a couple of poor (OK, were bad) surfers who want to mix it up between beginner breaks and more intermediate ones should the desire arise. All I'm looking for is opinions, and yes, you have the right to tell me to stay out of the water altogether if you wish. I figure someone here has been in this boat themselves and could help shed light on it for me. Thanks, Farmer_Tan

Re:Beginner needs help picking a destination - 2011/09/22 07:39Hi Farmer, go to places w/ slow rollers, like Waikiki/Diamond Head, if you are going to Oahu. Or choose a place w/ no reef or rocks, for safety. Keep in mind, in the winter, that is usually the time the surf picks up, so you might be "out-sized". Make sure to take/rent larger boards, say w/ lengths of at least 8'-10' in length for more stable riding and ease of paddling. Most of all, have fun! Aloha Nui Nui!
