Re:surf etiquette - 2010/04/15 01:46 We are people. We have to have rules and signs or we will be out of control.
"Peaceful spirit of surfing" What is so peaceful about "unleashing fisticuffs"?
fist fighting over a wave is lame.

Re:surf etiquette - 2010/04/16 04:59 Hmmmm, who woulda thought this would become pervasive. I was taught by my bros & others who were more experienced the following:
#1 Respect locals
#2 Do not be aggro
#3 Do not paddle in front of anyone who was up & riding
#4 Anticipate where riders are heading when paddling back out and go the opposite direction
#5 wear a leash
#6 Only shoulder hop when no one is on it
#7 Leave set waves for experienced guys or when it is clear to go
#8 When you are down grab your leash so your board does not smack anyone
#9 when you get up from being in the water hold your hand over your head so boards do not smack you
#10 if you look someone in the eye when you snake them expect a board to be shot at you
#11 if you do not look someone in the eye expect to have a board shot at you
#12 when you get up and see guys down the line not looking and getting ready to get on it, shout out "hey, hey"
#13 when you get alot of waves, give some away to newbies

Re:surf etiquette - 2010/04/16 05:00 Agree. There is always another wave and probably a better wave. There are other ways of dealing with it. Rip the next one.

Re:surf etiquette - 2010/05/02 23:32 One more point: try to find less crowded waves around (specially on beach breaks):
- even waves are less good, you will surf more
- you won't have to deal with the dark regards at the main peak...

I am often surprised that many surfers are packed at the very same place and that there are uncrowded waves 200 m away...
