Re:unwax surfboard - 2007/08/04 18:12I do like pervert_berts' idea of drinking a couple beers while getting the wax off yor and boiling water does do the trick. I would only take the wax off my board and drink beer when it flat, because you couldnt rewax your and then drive to the beach!
I would suggest his idea is for when you finished surfing for the day and then you can drink loads of beer and get the wax off your board......taking about 4 hours to the job done and telling your buddies how great you were today.
P.S. the older you get you don't beer to believe how great you were!!!

Re:unwax surfboard - 2007/08/05 01:45Yeah I sell a tickets myself now and then after riding my 7'2" SuperFish think I am 18 again! The king of abuse was MP he once won a contest at Burleigh Heads on the Goldie by paddling out with the finals almost over stoned on pot with a finger nail of pure china white up each nostril just before he hit the water ... got three perfect tubes ... won the contest then ran over to the public toilets and puked his guts out! Re:unwax surfboard - 2007/08/05 19:52I noticed that some people here suggest using Naptha (Petrol for car) and Benzene to remove wax.
Do NOT ever use that stuff to clean your board.
Do not ever use petroleum products of any sort to clean your surfboard.
Reason: Fibreglass resin used for reinforcing the fibreglass on surfboard is a petrochem product (plastics). Most petroleum chemicals will damage the resin.
I'm not 100% sure what grade resin surfboard makers use but I assume that its similar to the stuff used on fibreglass pipes in heavy industries. The MSDS states that you should not use petrochemical products to clean it.
I work in the chemical industry.

Re:unwax surfboard - 2009/08/30 01:41I'd just like to say that if you live in Wales like i do, then leaving your surfboard outside in the sun to melt the wax slightly is not a good idea (as your surfboard will just get rained on!!!) so i suggest that you scrape the wax with a spatula (if you do not own a wax comb) and then pour boiling water on it and wipe clean. Alternativley you can use a hair dryer to melt the wax.
