Re:HAWAII SURF TRIP - 2009/02/24 06:58 Might not be a good idea to visit HWY during summertime. You'll find all the famous North Shore spots flat. Surf then is at the south coast where all the tourist stay. Think over it!

Re:HAWAII SURF TRIP - 2009/02/24 09:22 I surfed in Maui in the winter, Honolua Bay etc..., drove daily for surf. Loved it but I did some searching for waves.

Was glad I had the rental car.

Atmosphere was much like anywere else, be polite, humble and aware and you will have no problems.

Hotels are expensive. Camping is cheap. Food is expensive but worth the extra cost.

Hawaii is an amazing place.

Re:HAWAII SURF TRIP - 2009/03/02 14:39 medewi huh? my profile photo is from there.. haha.. anyways.. summer time is south shore swells.. but theyre inconsistent compared to the kind of swells the north gets in the winter. but, there will be surf. it wont be flat. place to stay.. just stay in hostel in town, you can rent a bike with a surfboard rack and get to any spot on south shore. ala moana will be going off if you catch a good swell. diamond head always has size too, and its not as agro if you dont want to deal with the fighting for waves. but everyone in hawaii is super cool for the most part if you just bring a good attitude. dont come thinking you know everything or thinking you own the place. you'll be fine ;P

dunno about where to stay in other islands, but maui and kauai you basically need a car to get from the airport to anywhere. but same same, south shore will be the place to be.

and food.. not expensive if you know where to go
just send me a message if u have more questions

Re:HAWAII SURF TRIP - 2009/06/10 03:03 Well honestly if you are doing the surf trip thing you are best off in the winter. They have amazing waves up there. I went down to Kauai, tones of amazing spots. Gas can be a little pricey there but there are a lot of different rental places. some of them are real junkers but they will get you from point a to point b which is all you really need. You can also get boated from one place to another but don't do the tourist thing that would be expensive I'm sure. But some of the local go from island to island just hitch a ride on a boat theres ) Honestly it's Hawaii so you will have fun. Just respect the locals code there are quite a few down there and you will have a blast. They respect those who respect them just like anywhere else. I have tones of friend In Oahu they are awesome people. In fact my husband lived there as a kid even.

Peace love surf,
Autumn
