Lima Peru, need a board in October - 2009/05/04 04:14 I'm going to Lima Peru end of October 09. I don't wanna pack up my boards as I'll only be able to get in the water a few times. Does anyone know of a place to 'rent' or get a loaner board. I surf shortboards, primarily in the 6'3" shortboard range. Looking to surf Punta Rocas and a few other spots. Any other info on the area is appreciated also.

Re:Lima Peru, need a board in October - 2009/05/06 05:07 Most of the surf hostals and lodges will have some spare boards for rent. Conditions and stock varies majorly.

If you aren't staying in one of those, you can try Wayo Whilar (http://www.wayowhilar.com.pe/) or Klimax (http://www.klimaxsurf.com/). They are local shapers who may have some boards for rent. Give them a call or drop by their shops to see what's up. If they don't have what you need, they can probably point you to someone else.

Other than that most of the rentals available on the beach are only foam longboards for beginners.

There is a lot of Peruvian Surfing info posted in the 'World Spots' forum. Also there is fairly good info on most of the surf spots on the main wannasurf site.

Re:Lima Peru, need a board in October - 2009/05/08 01:38 thank you for the reply. I'll definitely hit them up prior to my departure. I figure if I was to pack my boards, the airlines will hit me for around $100. Maybe I find a less expensive used board and just leave it there for some kid.

Re:Lima Peru, need a board in October - 2009/05/08 01:57 From what I have seen, new board prices (for superior shapes that you can work with the shaper to custom design) are about $100-400 cheaper than comparable pop-out boards in the US. IE: you can get a custom shaped board for around $400-600 instead of $600-900+. Turn around time for a new board is generally a "few" weeks, which in Peru often means 4-7.

I am not very familiar with used board prices but I imagine that they are comparable or slightly lower than those in the US ($200-400). The hardest part is finding decent used boards and shops/people with enough selection for you to find what you want.
