Where can I rent boards in Australia and NZ? - 2009/04/15 08:28I will be going to Australia and New Zealand in July. Basically I'll be flying around a lot (1 night in Sydney, 3 in Melbourne, 1 more night in Sydney, 3 in Cairnes, 3 in New Zealand, 1 more night in Sydney). I was hoping to surf Bells Beach, somewhere in Sydney, and Raglan. Anyone know where I can rent a shortboard from in each of these areas, and for how much?
I'm reluctant to bring my boards, because some shuttle services between hotels and airports don't allow surfboard bags, and some charge extra for them. I just want to know how much it will cost to rent, so I can figure out if it will be cheaper than bringing my boards. Anyone know which shuttle I can take to and from the airport that allows surfboard bags for a reasonable price? Also, because of the amount of flying I will be doing, having a board bag just gives one more thing to lug around.
Thanks for all your help,
Surfsniper

Re:Where can I rent boards in Australia and NZ? - 2009/04/15 08:49Most local surf stores by the coasts will have boards for hire in aus. the price ranges from between #20 and $40 dollars for the day. Not sure about NZ.

Re:Where can I rent boards in Australia and NZ? - 2009/04/15 13:17I think pretty much anywhere along the coast you can rent a board. Aussie is full of them you shouldn't have any problem.
My friend just came back from NZ and he just asked surfers if they had a old board he could borrow and he got a long just fine. And some of the areas I know do have surf shops as well and they do rent out. What city are you going to? I have a friend in South Auckland if it is anywhere around there I'm sure I could ask him.
Peace love surf, Autumn

Re:Where can I rent boards in Australia and NZ? - 2009/05/12 01:22Try some spots along Ocean View Rd., that's where like Quicksilver and Roxy and like Billabong have there home stores, they all originated from that area, its a pretty cool history lesson too man. Bell's Beach is pretty sick, I didn't surf there, but its really awesome. They are known for consistent sets like all da, but not as much for there size. That's why the ASP circuit stops there, its more of an even playing field and only the best surfers really shine, you know? Hope this helps. Peace J
