After a painfully
quiet fall, hurricane season finally decided to show its face last
weekend when Hurricane Noel sent solid overhead-plus surf to the
Northeast. Beaches from New Jersey to Maine were firing; thick tubes
and long, rip-able walls on offer to those that who wanted it bad
enough. N’East hopes you got to taste some of that sweet Atlantic
The arrival of solid swell coincided with the arrival of Issue 11 on newsstands and on its way to all subscriber's mailboxes. Rest up from those all-day sessions by kicking back with an issue guest edited by Sam Hammer and Ross Powers. N’East brought in the New Jersey charger and Vermont gold medalist to give us the athlete-driven influence we strive for. The result should get you frothing for that next swell or that first dump on the peaks of the Northeast.
N’East also included a resort review in Issue 11 to dial you in to where to go this winter when the skies open. Featured hill, Sunday River, sundayriver.com opened on Halloween. Skiers and riders got their first turns of the year in spring-like conditions. Also to fuel the winter stoke, Issue 11 has a gear review to keep you well equipped for the season, and a trip to Newfoundland with the Meathead Films meatheadfilms.com crew for hucks and first descents in some of the best terrain in the East.
Also in this issue: a skate trip across four states, an interview with designer/Caribbean tube rider, David Carson, davidcarsondesign.com, and the resurgence of Jersey punk band Lifetime, myspace.com/lifetimenj.
An issue like this is deserving of a raging party, which went down on Saturday November 10th at the Surf Taco, surftaco.com, in Jackson, New Jersey. N’East thought it would be fitting to host the soirée in Sam Hammer's stomping grounds. The party featured scenes from Joe Carter’s Get in the Van, and a trailer for GITVAN 2, myspace.com/gitvan, and a slide show of work from Long Beach Island photographer and frequent N’East contributor, Ann Marie Coen, anncoen.com. Red Bull, Redbull.com, helped N’East throw the party, with giveaways from DVS, dvsshoes.com, and Mountain Creek, mountaincreek.com.We'd like to send a double-overhead thank you to everyone who came out, including so many contributors.
And a very special thank you to our Athlete Driven, Eva Bonner who came down with her Creek crew ready to rock.
As media sponsor for Meathead Films’ new movie, Wanderland meatheadfilms.com, and TGR’s new film, Lost and Found, tetongravity.com, N’East would like to remind everyone of upcoming tour dates for both.
