| Cross-stepping back from the nose in dredgy 54th street shore-break and having the board launch out the back of the wave only to come crashing down on my shoulder. Accident=Bruised Collar Bone.
Hanelei Bay on a huge (by california standards) day. Biggest wave of the day i turn around halfway up the face, take four paddels, and drop in on what others were saying 30 foot face. Make my bottom turn only to find out the whole wave is closed out. Dive of the board in front of the white wash and go into the washingmachine. Got twisted and disoriented on which way was up. Open my eyes to see the surface go BLACK and have it all happen again. By the time i came up was in five or six feet of water with a razor sharp reef under my feet. While i wasnt hurt, i realized that getting held under in warm water is way better than getting held under in coldwater. Had that happend at home (Huntington) i probably would not have paddeled back out. |
