Mean people suck! Why even surf it you aren't having fun? You should get into a different sport if you just want to start fights and hassle people.
If you can't respect others you shouldn't be out either. It can get very dangerous. I've been sent to the emergency room too many times because some idiot decides to drop in on me.

I don't really do contests. The last time I entered was a beach entry for about $30. I only entered because the waves were really good (6-8' and glassy) and I wanted to surf. I did pretty good though, but didn't make it to the finals.
