| About me: |
Life is about balance. At age 53, I manage a career, wife, kids, mortgage, dog- the whole thing. Most importantly I have fun, and rarely compromise the balance. It's incredibly important not to lose your dream. So many of my contemporaries have dropped out and not left time in their lives for the things they used to love. Not me! I remain the Alpha Male Warrior!
So I surf when there are waves (30X/year), ski when I can. Hunt and fish before and after work. I love my wife and include my family in all my activities (so we have six fly rods, five spinning rods, five pairs of waders, five surfboards, four surf rods, two snowboards, two pairs of skis, a mountain bike, two bows and guns to go around).
Advice to you kids when you get older: In order to effectively facilitate the continuation of your most fun outdoor activities, GET YOU SPOUSE AND KIDS IN ON IT! Then your spouse won't complain that you are out all the time, and your kids will get turned on to all the stuff that you love. Don't ever do anything to compromise your spousal relationship, and you will have TRUST (so when you go on trips with your surf buddies there will be no anomosity). ALWAYS STAY IN BETTER PHYSICAL CONDITION THAN YOUR KIDS, so they won't call you "old man", and you can laugh at them when you're catching waves and they are getting crushed inside. Always challenge them to pushup contests, but wisely concede to bench press challenges. Don't even think about arm wrestling(not because they can actually win, but they tend to outlast you).
